Jakarta: The reshuffle of the board of commissioners and directors at PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) is expected to revive the tourism sector in Indonesia. This can be seen from the selection of figures who are very professional and that understand the industry’s issues.
Chairman of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) Haryadi Sukamdani said he was optimistic that there would be a significant change in the airline. The presence of Garuda Indonesia is considered very important in connecting leading tourist destinations in the country.
"Tourism will be better," Haryadi said in Kuningan, South Jakarta on Thursday, January 23, 2020.
The sector's input is expected to be more accommodated by the new Garuda Indonesia board of directors. According to Haryadi, he is quite close with Garuda Indonesia's new deputy president director Dony Oskaria.
"Because one of our colleagues, Pak Dony, has also been in tourism for a long time, (he is) my friend at the National Industrial Economic Committee (KEIN)," said the Chairperson of Apindo.
Previously, the reshuffle followed the dismissal of the five directors of the airline in the case of smuggling Harley Davidson motorcycles and Brompton bikes on the new Garuda Airbus A330-900 NEO aircraft.
The five directors dismissed were President Director Ari Askhara, Technical and Service Director Iwan Joeniarto, Cargo and Business Development Director Mohammad Iqbal, and Human Capital Director Heri Akhyar, and Operations Director Bambang Adisurya Angkasa.
