Pangkalpinang: President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo led the inauguration ceremony of the Tanjung Kelayang Special Economic Zone in Bangka Belitung province on Thursday.
"The Tanjung Kelayang Special Economic Zone could boost Bangka Belitung province's revenue. The increase could reach 300 percent," the former Jakarta governor explained.
Tanjung Kelayang is located about 28 kilometers from Tanjung Pandan city in Belitung island. It is one of the most beautiful beach in Belitung island.
The region is a perfect place for exotic travel and panorama. It is not only popular to domestic tourists but also foreign tourists.
The government revealed that the project would cover 324.4 hectares of land. It hopes that the special economic zone could attract Rp9 trillion worth of investments.
Quoting a report from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia recorded 15.8 million foreign tourist arrivals throughout 2018. The number increased by 12.58 percent compared to the previous year.
The country welcomed 1.41 million foreign tourist arrivals in December 2018. It increased by 21.43 percent compared to the previous month.
The room occupancy rate (TPK) of star classification hotels in Indonesia reached an average of 59.75 percent in December 2018. It decreased by 0.44 percentage point compared to the previous month.
The Inauguration ceremony was also attended by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, Tourism Minister Arief Yahya, Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko and Bangka Belitung Erzaldi Rosman.
According to BKPM, domestic and foreign direct investment realization in Indonesia only reached Rp721.3 trillion in 2018. It only grew by 4.1 percent compared to the previous year.
Domestic investment realization reached Rp392.7 trillion last year. It increased by 25.3 percent compared to the previous year.
Foreign direct investment realization reached Rp328.6 trillion in 2018. It decreased by 8.8 percent compared to the previous year.
