Jakarta: Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno is optimistic that Indonesia's tourism sector will rise again from its slump.
Indonesia is expected to become a top tourist destination in Southeast Asia in 2022.
"I consider 2021 as the beginning of our recovery," said Sandi virtually during the Media Group News (MGN) Summit Indonesia 2021 forum titled "Wonderful Indonesia: Reviving The Tourism Industry" on Thursday.
The government Indonesia is currently developing five priority destinations namely Lake Toba in North Sumatra, Borobudur in Central Java, Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Mandalika in West Nusa Tenggara, and Likupang in North Sulawesi.
"Mr. President (Joko Widodo) wants us to focus on developing five priority destinations as well as tourism village programs," he stated.
Held on January 27-28, the MGN Summit: Indonesia 2021 was opened by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Wednesday. The forum is a hybrid event which is divided into several sessions. In each session, there are various speakers such as government representatives, businessmen, academics, and experts.
One of the important elements of the MGN Summit is the presentation of the survey results from the News Research Center (NRC) of the Media Group News. The survey was conducted nationally in 34 provinces in the country. Four issues were highlighted in the survey, namely economic recovery, public health, green energy and tourism.
Apart from these four big issues, the MGN Summit also adresses other issues, especially the impact of the Covid-19 crisis.
