Chicago: For the first time, food and beverage products from Indonesia can now be more easily obtained in Chicago and its surroundings through the grand opening of the WaRoeNG store in the city of Schaumburg last week.
Schaumburg is located west of Chicago.
The opening ceremony was simple but lively, marked by the cutting of the ribbon by the Mayor of Schaumburg Tom Dailly, Senator Michelle Mussman, the Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Chicago Meri Binsar Simorangkir, Membership Director of the Schaumburg Business Association Matt East, President of the Indonesian Diaspora Network Martino Tangkar and WaRoeNG shop owners Tasya Hardono, John Avila, and Windy Priliantining.?
"This is not only my dream but also the dream of Indonesians because so far there is no Indonesian grocery store in Chicago," said Tasya in a press release issued by the Indonesian Consulate General in Chicago.
In addition to being a nostalgic medicine for the Indonesian diaspora, Tasya also dreams of her shop being a bridge to bring US people closer to Indonesia.
Schaumburg, which is inhabited by various residents, is a good opportunity to introduce Indonesian products.
"By inviting mayors, senators, and business associations, I want to introduce them to the fact that Indonesian products are also of high quality and worthy of being presented to the local community," said Tasya, who is also the owner of the Indonesian restaurant 'Minahasa' in the downtown area of ??Chicago.
Tasya also expressed her appreciation to the Indonesian Consulate General in Chicago who from the beginning continued to support her, including facilitating meetings with importers of food and beverage products that are widely available on the US West Coast, until finally this store was successfully opened.
Schaumburg Mayor Tom Dailly also congratulated the opening of WaRoeNG.
"We are very pleased that Schaumburg was chosen as the location for this store," he said.
While touring with shop owners and other invited guests, he praised the wide range of products on offer. According to him, this will be a special attraction for the Indonesian community and local residents, so that the store has a good opportunity to continue to grow.
"Besides that, as a craft enthusiast, I am happy that here also very good handicraft products are sold," he said while observing some of the wooden crafts on the shop shelves.
Schaumburg is listed as the second largest center of economic growth in the State of Illinois.
In this area there are many well-known large retailers as well as medium and small businesses.
The Indonesian Consul General in Chicago Meri Binsar Simorangkir also expressed his appreciation and pride.
"This is the first store in Chicago and its surroundings that truly presents Indonesian products, especially food and beverages," said Consul General Meri.
Since arriving in Chicago, the diplomat has noticed that the Indonesian community and diaspora around Chicago are experiencing difficulties due to the limited availability of Indonesian food and beverage products.
