Govt Proposes Discounts for Flights to Bali, Bintan

Nur Azizah, Christopher Harindra • 06 February 2020 18:03
Jakarta: The government wants to provide discounted flights to Bali, Bintan and North Sulawesi. The proposed policy is intended to attract local tourists to the regions.

"The Minister of Transportation (Budi Karya Sumadi) said earlier that the three destinations have been experiencing decreases," said Chief of Staff President Moeldoko at the Presidential Staff Office, Jakarta on Thursday, February 6, 2020.

According to Special Staff of the Minister of Transportation Adita Irawati, the Ministry of Transportation is still discussing the proposal with a number of airlines. The mechanism of the discounts is left to each airline.

"This has already been discussed with the airline and later it will be based on their respective policies," she explained.

The spread of the coronavirus is expected to have a major impact on the tourism sector. It is estimated that Indonesia could experience a decrease in foreign exchange up to USD4 billion due to the closure of flights from China.

"Of course the impact of the closure of flights is quite significant so we try to remain attractive with a variety of packages provided by airlines," concluded Adita.
