Jakarta: President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo has ordered the development of the tourist destination of Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara, to begin this year. Five zones that need to be addressed include Bukit Pramuka, Bukit Air, Container Port, Marina area and Ujung Village.
"We really need to integrate, both related to neatness, cleanliness, comfort, and safety for tourists," the President said in a written statement in Jakarta on Monday, January 20, 2020.
Jokowi explained that the five zones will become public spaces with beautiful views. The area is believed to be the driving force of development and the center of community activity in Labuan Bajo.
"A beautiful landscaping that has become a driving force for the development of a community center in Labuan Bajo," he said.
Construction of runways and terminals in Labuan Bajo will also begin in 2020. The additional infrastructure will make flight traffic to East Nusa Tenggara even higher.
"Because everything is ready and we hope that this airport will receive flights," he said.
The government disbursed a budget of IDR 1,7 trillion to improve the tourism area of Labuan Bajo. The budget increased from 2019 of Rp1.54 trillion and was channeled through five ministries. Among these were the Ministry of PUPR contributed Rp979.3 billion, the Ministry of Transportation Rp435.04 billion, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy Rp244.74 billion, the Ministry of Health PDTT Rp21.72 billion, and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry Rp29.23 billion.
