Jakarta: President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo led a limited cabinet meeting on acceleration of development of Borobodur temple at Borobudur temple complex, Magelang, Central Java on Friday, August 30, 2019.
According to President Jokowi, amidst global economic turbulence, tourism sector can boost foreign exchange reserves, create multiplier effects, and stimulate economic growth both at the national level and the regional level.
“Therefore, we have to speed up the development of our four priority tourism destinations: Lake Toba, Mandalika in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) province, Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province, and Borobudur Temple,” the Cabinet Secretariat's website quoted the President as saying.
The President said the development of Borobudur Temple also includes the completion of the new Yogyakarta International Airport (BIY) expected to be in full operation in March 2020, along with the construction of roads from Kulonprogo – where the new airport is located – to the temple to cut travel time between the two places.
The President added that the master plan and the detailed plans in the development of Borobudur Temple must also be immediately finalized and decided on, while spatial planning and the tourism development zoning must be immediately decided.
“I think there are still many tasks to finish in the development of Borobudur Temple,” he was quoted as saying.
