Jakarta: Indonesian Minister of Tourism Arief Yahya encouraged local government to develop digital tourism destinations to attract millennial tourists.

“More than fifty percent of the travelers who come to Indonesia are millennials, which makes them the future of Indonesia tourism. Who wins the future, wins the game,” Minister Arief said in a press statement released on Tuesday, September 3, 2019.

According to Minister Arief, there are current changes in tourists’ habit which more than 70 percent of them choose to look out for destinations by ‘search and share’ method through digital platforms.

Therefore, local governments and tourism stakeholders are urged to develop digital destination facilities by offering many entertaining destinations to attract millennials, such as photo spot, unique culinary, or even Instagrammable spot to be uploaded through social media.

The launching of the Cangkuang Temple Digital Tourism Market was enlivened by interesting attractions including the Rudat Art event, Kampung Pulo Traditional Procession, Rampak Kohkol, Rampak Kendang, Arumba, as well as comedy and millennial music performances.

Furthermore, there are also various culinary specialties of Garut, including Liwet Rice, Garut Sheep, Baroyot and Gayodot, and Garut Coffee, which has a distinctive taste and is loved by millennials.
