medcom.id, Surabaya: Mount Bromo in Probolinggo, East Java is not yet fully safe for tourists. The condition gives a headache to local tourism industry.
"Bromo is still on alert level 2," East Java Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) chief Darmawan told Metrotvvnews.com, on Thursday (7/4/2016).
Mount Bromo is popular destination among domestic and foreign tourists. One of its attractions is Yadnya Kasada ceremony which is held annually around August-September.
The ceremony is conducted by the native Tengger tribe as a form of gratitute to the God. Tengger people will climb the volcano and drop offerings to its crater.
Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) official, Anton Hartadi, said local residents have not decided whether they will conduct the ceremony this year.
Mount Bromo's volcanic activity has increased since last year. Until now, the volcano is still spewing ashes and causing small earthquakes.
