medcom.id, Batang: A group of children swam under the poring waterfall of Curug Agung, in Batang Regency, Central Java. The splashes of water provided serenity and joy to the children's faces, as anyone would not be able to stand themselves from falling into the waterfall.
It is one of the natural resources located in Pasusukan Village, Bawang District, Batang Regency. The location is still 'virgin' or untouched by investors and tourism developers. There are still no hotels or modern restaurants surrounding the waterfall, as the presence was only known from mouth to mouth.
Nasihin, 52, caretaker of Curug Agung, said the tourism spot is purely out of local citizens' initiative. Several years ago, the people gathered in opening the road access to the waterfall.
"Now Curug Agung is receiving lots of visitors from local areas or beyond," Nasihin said.
The people are now trying to develop the economic potential around Curug Agung. For example by selling handicrafts and culinary items. "So the visitors would return for more," hoped Nasihin.
In other places, Bawang District Head Dwi Irianto conveyed the potential of natural tourism will boost many aspects. He thinks the village's natural tourism has become an attraction of its own if compared to the cities.
"The development of village tourism with the natural potential like this earns the appreciation and salute. Thanks to the hard work and initiations from the local people, results have been produced. Hopefully this may be the inspiration for other regions to develop theirs as well," he explained.
Dwi hoped the regency administration allocates fund to develop the potential of village tourism. One of them is promoting the potential to other regions beyond the regency.
