Creating Local Wine with International Standards

medcom.id, Bandung: Enjoying wine together with friends and families may be done more often by foreign people. Nonetheless, currently the drink from the fermentation of grape now can be found more easily in the country..
 
One of the producers of local wines is Sababay Winery. Although it uses local grape from Buleleng, Bali, the Sababay Winery's wines have achieved international standards.
 
"The Sababay's wine is a local wine produced by simple method without any mixture of preservatives," explained the Deputy CEO of PT Sababay Industry Yohan Handoyo to Metrotvnews.com, during the pre launching of Sababay Winery in Infinite Lounge, Crowne Plaza Hotel, Bandung, Wednesday, December 16.
 
Yohan explained his company produces wine because of the potential of wine in Asia and especially in Bali. Moreover,it is on of the examples of creative economy.
 
"By producing wine locally, it will provide added value to the vineyard products. Therefore, we intend to become the tip of the spear from the integrated farming concept, with a goal to elevate the welfare of local wine farmers," he explained.
 
He thinks that Indonesia is still underestimated due to climate factor which is considered cannot support the production of grape. However, the fact is grape may grow well in dry climate with relatively high night temperature.
 
"Through good selection of location and correct grapes\ variety, the grape cultivation in Indonesia may provide satisfying result for the local grape farmers and wine producers," he affirmed.
 
The Sababay Winery products have now spread to various Indonesian regions such as Bali, East Java, West Java, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Pekanbaru, Palembang, Medan, Pontianak and Manado.
 
"The most interesting part is the public appreciation on local wine, which is actually good, especially in the cities where we are present," he mentioned.
 
Yohan added that his company is even more sure to introduce local wine brand after observing for the past years where his company took 18 awards from international wine competition in various countries.
 
"Currently, the dominant product in Indonesia is imported wine. We are optimistic to succeed in our own country," he concluded.
