medcom.id, Jakarta: The Muslim Tourism Index of Global MasterCard-Crescent Rating (GMTI) 2016 placed Indonesia at the fourth most visited country by global Muslim communities.
The assessment is conducted on 130 tourism destination in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
GMTI's study mentioned that there are 117 million Muslim tourists visiting various countries. In 2020, it is predicted to increase by 10 percent or at around 168 million Muslim tourists, with the market value projection reaching USD200 billion.
"There are lots of tourism destination reaching success globally. The segment of Muslim tourism destination, which has grown so fast, is an opportunity to be taken into benefit," said the Group Executive, Global Products & Solutions of Asia Pacific MasterCard, Matthew Driver, when met in Pullman Hotel, Jakarta, Wednesday (3/23/2016).
In this case, Indonesia has the index of 70.6 points. Meanwhile Malaysia, at the top rank, scored 81.9 points.
GMTI 2016 is a comprehensive research institution, which records the growth of muslim tourists globally.
