medcom.id, Aceh Besar: There are various culinary feat you can try when visiting Aceh Besar. Some of them are the coffee, Sale Pisang (banana cake) and Dodol.
Lampisang Village at Lhoknga District has become the center of Aceh's traditional cookies and snacks. Along the streets of Banda Aceh-Meulaboh, the array of stalls and sellers are prepared to welcome tourists looking for souvenirs.
Aside from pisang sale and dodol Aceh, several snacks often hunted are Bhoi and Meuseukat. Several other traditional snacks are available, as they are sought often.
"We deliberately sells classic snacks rarely being sold nowadays," said Nonong, a snacks seller, when met by Metrotvnews.com.
The buyers are not only from local regions. Several tourists from North Sumatra to Malaysia often visited his stall.
Since opening the business in 2006, Nonong admitted he never made his own snacks. He often accepted the snacks made by producers in Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar.
One of those who often placed traditional snacks in Lampisang is Rosnidar. The woman with three children usually makes Dodol, Meuseukat, and Bada Reteuk. The three are top selling snacks.
If seen from its shape, Meuseukat and Dodol looks slightly the same. But when tasted, Meuseukat is sweeter than Dodol, as it has a mix of grated pineapple.
The process of making is also different. She said Meuseukat does not take long to make, only an hour. Meanwhile, Dodol needs two hours of making.
The two snacks are also part of a bride's servings during the Preh Dara Baro, or famously known as Ngunduh Mantu in Javanese, or engagement in the international world.
"Usually for the servings, there are four baskets of snacks, two Dodol and two Meuseukat," she said.
Similar idea was mentioned by Junidar, another traditional snack producer. Assisted by her husband and two neighbors, Junidar often accepts snack orders for these servings.
In a day, Junidar said she could make five to six baskets of traditional snacks.
