medcom.id, Jakarta: Residents of Kendal Regency, Central Java, have unique fishing tradition called Gebyuk Festival. Gebyuk is traditional fish trap made from bamboo.
The festival was held in Laban Village on Sunday (5/15/2016). Hundreds of people gathered in Sebeo River near the village.
"The tradition symbolizes cooperation. The government will support the tradition," said Kendal Regent Mirna Annisa during the event.
Laban Village chief, Ulil, explained the tradition has been conducted for many generations. It is always held during dry season.
The participants tried to catch fish as many as possible. They first lured the fish and then trapped it inside the Gebyuk.
