Rote Island, World's Surfing Heaven

medcom.id, Jakarta: Rote Island in East Nusa Tenggata (NTT) is famous among foreign surfers. Nemberala Beach in the western part of the island has one of the longest waves in Indonesia.
 
For you wanting to learn how to surf, there are lots of surfing spots in the area.
 
The large number of foreign tourists has made Nemberala area dubbed as Foreigners Village, or Kampung Bule.
 
Best time to visit
 
Peak season is between June to September. However, speedboats stop their services in July and August due to high wind. Lots of rains occur in January.
 
How to get to the island
 
There are several ways to reach the island. Quoted from the NTT's Hidden Paradise by Rita Harapan, Rote Island can be reached through  sea.
 
Easiest transportation to Rote is by the express boat, Bahari Express from Tenau Port in Kupang to Ba'a Port in Rote. It takes around 1.5-2 hours.
 
Departures from Tenau to Ba'a is available on daily basis at around 08.30 WITA, and from Ba'a to Tenau at 11.00 WITA.
 
After reaching Ba'a, you still have to take public transport to Nemberala which cost Rp30,000 per person. If you want to rent the car, It cost around Rp250,000. The length of the trip is 1.5-2 hours from Ba'a to Nemberala.
