Travel to the Old Semarang

Old City of Semarang, during the Dutch occupation was called as Outstadt or Little Netherland, which was the center of Semarang's market. Currently, Old City has been revitalized and made as cultural heritage site.

These are several places you can visit at the Old Town Semarang.
 
1. Blenduk Church
Immanuel Church, or also known as the Blenduk Church by the locals, due to its fat shaped dome. This church is the oldest Protestant church in Central Java, built by the Dutch in 1753. More than two and a half centuries standing, Blenduk Church still actively used for services and religious ceremonies until currently.
 
2. Asuransi Jiwasraya Building
The office currently stationed by PT. Jiwasraya Semarang had also been the office of a life insurance company during the Dutch occupation, named Nederlandsch Indische Leven Sverzeking De Lifrente Maatschaapij (NILLMI). 
 
From outside, maybe there was nothing interesting about the building. But do you know that within the building, there is an elevator recorded as the first elevator in Indonesia. 
 
3. Coffee shop and cafes
Several other buildings in the Old Town has been turned into coffee shops, cafes or karaoke place with European design. One of the famous ones is the Retro Cafe, located behind Blenduk Church.
 
4. Antique Shops
The antique market is located on the right side of the Srigunting park. If taken into notice, the small market is similar to the antique market located in Jalan Surabaya, Menteng, Central Jakarta. Here, you may find various antiques such as old cameras, vases, old electronics equipment up to black music plates.
