medcom.id, Jakarta: Lambai is a popular vegetable dish in Aceh during Ramadan. It is also known as sambai petplohpet in several regions.
"It is difficult to find it outside Ramadan," said Samsidar, lambai seller in Banda Aceh.
The main ingredients of the dish are peugaga leaves, kaffir lime leaves, pomegranate leaves and mango leaves. At first, the leaves are washed and chopped.
"Then the leaves are mixed with fried coconuts, shallots, cayenne peppers, and lemongrass roots," said Rubarna, another lambai seller.
Aceh people believe lambai could cure coughs and high blood pressure. "We usually eat it with ie bu peudah (Acehnese porridge)," Rubarna added.
