medcom.id, Taipei: Observing Ramadan in foreign country is a unique experience. Different cultures and traditions are the challenges for Muslims in non-Muslim country.
Migrant worker from Cirebon, West Java, Salman al-Farisi shared his experience observing Ramadan in Taiwan. He mentioned that Muslims in Taiwan usually eat local snack called stinky tofu during the holy month.
"It costs arond TWD40 or around Rp20,000," he told Metrotvnews.com, recently.
Stinky tofu is popular among Muslims in Taiwan because it is pork-free and easy to find. The dish has a very strong odor. If you are not used to it, you can feel nauseous.
"At first, I can't stand the smell, but the taste is good," Salman continued.
It can be bought in mosques or markets before iftar. Salman said Muslims in Taiwan usually break fasting together.
"They usually bring snacks to mosque be shared," he concluded.
