medcom.id, Yogyakarta: A woman has sold Gudeg, Javanese dish made from jackfruit, in the city of Yogyakarta since before the Japanese occupation era. The old woman, named Setya Utama, 97 years old, sells the dish at Sosrowijayan street, Malioboro, Yogyakarta or precisely in front of Grage Hotel.
When Metrotvnews visited her stall, Mbah Lindu, Setya's nickname, swiftly served costumers. Nevertheless, she had to be assisted by her fifth child, Ratiyah, 55.
"I have forgotten when i start. Before the Japanese came," mentioned Mbah Lindu in Javanese language.
Every day, the woman with five children and 15 grandchildren departs from her home in Klebengan, Depok, Sleman at 5 AM. She uses pick-up car driven by one of her grandchildren. She sells Gudeg until 10 AM.
"I make Gudeg myself. The recipe stays the same since the beginning," said Mbah Lindu.
she sells Gudeg with reasonable price and various selections of side dishes from tofu, tempeh, eggs, to chicken meat.
"The price ranges from Rp15,000 to Rp20,000. The ones wrapped with traditional container cost Rp50,000," mentioned Ratiyah.
Despite her old age, Mbah Lindu said she has no intention to retire from business. When asked about retirement, she only smiled and said, "Until then, I don't know when. I do not know whether my child could replace me or not," she said while laughing.
