medcom.id, Medan: A community called Save Our River based in Avros Educational Park in Medan, North Sumatra introduces unique activity. The community regularly clean the Deli river from garbage and plant trees along the river banks.

Public can also join the activity through a tourism package offered by the community.

Deli river during the time of Deli Empire was the main trade route from Medan to other regions. However, Deli river currently has lost its beauty.

"I am thinking why Deli River is not made as a tourism object. People could also clean and plant trees by the riverside," said the cruise tourism package management, Lukman Nurhalim, Saturday (1/17/2016).

At least a thousand tree seeds are prepared to support the tree planting program. Lukman said his community tries to promote awareness to environment.

"The tourism package is a campaign for Medan residents to preserve and maintain the cleanliness of Deli River," explained Lukman.

He has been involved with this activity for two years. The tariff are relatively affordable, Rp300,000 per person, with a minimum of five people per trip.

The route is from Avros Bay to Kampung Aur. For other routes, different fee applied.

"It is not too crowded, but we have to continue to promote the Deli River tourism" mentioned Lukman.

Aside from the Deli River Cruise Tourism, the visitors at Avros Educational Park may enjoy other amusement arcades such as flying fox and outbound games.

Anwar, one Medan residents, mentioned he thinks the tourism  package is very interesting. "We are interested with the package because the activity is not merely entertainment, but also educational," Anwar mentioned.

Although he has to clean garbage from the river, Anwar was not upset. On the other hand, he enjoyed the activity and said he will return and bring more friends with him.
