medcom.id, Balige: President Joko Widodo opened the Spectacular Lake Toba Independence Day Carnival (KKPDT) 2016 in Balige, North Sumatra on Sunday, August 21.
Jokowi wore Bataknese traditional dress at the opening ceremony. He wore Ulos Ragidup Sirara, while First Lady Iriana wore Ulos Tum-Tuman.
"It shows our national character," said Jokowi in his welcoming speech.
KKPDT 2016 was held on August 20-21 by the Ministry of Tourism. It was intended to boost tourism in Lake Toba.
"This carnival should be held annually," he continued.
Thousands of locals participated in the carnival. There were also representatives from provinces in Indonesia.
