medcom.id, Jakarta: This November, an ocean tourism festival is being held in Wakatobi. That said, this is the biggest ocean culture festival in Indonesia so far.
Variety of ocean culture attractions will take place between 22-28 November 2015 in Wakatobi Wonderful Festival and Expo (Wakatobi Wave) 2015.
Besides its underwater charm, Wakatobi is also known for its unique local society culture. Some traditional arts are ready to perform, like the Lengko ceremonial custom, Kandadio and Kansoda’a, colossal traditional dance, and giant ‘liwo’ “Pesona Wakatobi Indonesia.”
The event organizer also has arranged other supporting activities, such as Cultural and Natural Landscape of Wakatobi Photo Contest, Bodi Batang Race (motor boat race), Ornamental Boat Parade, and Traditional Music Performance. The festival will be hosting also some famous performer from Jakarta.
Wakatobi WAVE 2015 is being held by the coordination of The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and the Government of Wakatoby County.
The Wakatobi County is one of 18 city and county in South East of Sulawesi Province. The name Wakatobi, is an acronym of four big and inhabited island in Wakatobi; Wangi-Wangi (Wa), Kaledupa (Ka), Tomia (To), and Binongko (Bi).
The Wakatobi County territory is dominated by ocean, ranging up to 97%. The land is only 3% from its total area of 19.200 km2.
It’s not surprising that ocean sector, fishery, ocean tourism are their best natural resources. Hoga Island considered the most favorite destination for tourist due to its natural scenic appeal, above land and under water.
As a rising star for ‘new’ travel destination, Wakatobi has done their homework. Tourist, local and global, will find ease in transportation facility to Wakatobi. Air transportation is available everyday with route from Makassar-Kendari-Wakatobi. While water transportation is also provided with route from Kendari–Wakatobi as well as Baubau-Wakatobi.
