Jakarta: Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yasin today discussed joint efforts to combat international discrimination against palm oil products from both countries.
President Jokowi welcomed his Malaysian counterpart at the Merdeka Palace in Central Jakarta on Friday. The two leaders discussed a wide range of bilateral and international issues during the bilateral meeting.
"We talked about palm oil. Indonesia will continue to combat discrimination against palm oil," said President Jokowi during a press conference after the bilateral meeting.
"Our efforts will be more effective if we work together. Indonesia hopes Malaysia has the same commitment," the President stated.
Both Indonesia and Malaysia are the world’s largest exporters of palm oil. The continuity of this commodity sector is critical for both economies.
This visit is Muhyiddin's first official visit since assuming office in March 2020. Indonesia has always been the first destination for an official visit by the Malaysian Prime Minister after assuming office.
