Jakarta: Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia maintained a larger trade surplus in May 2021, totalling USD2.36 billion compared with USD2,19 billion one month earlier.

Indonesia has, therefore, maintained a trade surplus since May 2020.

"Last month's trade surplus is the highest trade surplus in 2021," said BPS Chairman Suhariyanto during a virtual press conference here on Tuesday.

Cumulatively, Indonesia recorded a trade surplus of US$10.17 billion from January 2021 until May 2021, he said.

In the same period last year, the country only recorded a trade surplus of US$4.18 billion, he added.

"We hope that our trade balance could continue to record a surplus," he stated.
