Jenderal Soedirman Airport Expected to be Operational in 2020

Jakarta: The Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), Rini Soemarno, believes that the Jenderal Soedirman Airport will be operational in May 2020.
 
This week, she directly inspected the construction of the runway of the airport which is located in Purbalingga, Central Java.
 
“I am delighted that the construction is still ongoing and we expect that the runwway construction will finish this year," Rini said here on Wednesday, October 2, 2019.

This will be followed with the construction of other infrastructure until the airport can operate in 2020,” Rini added.
 
The executive director of PT Angkasa Pura II, Muhammad Awaluddin, said that the new airport will play an important role in bolstering the economy of the region.
 
“The regional economies in five adjacent areas, which are Banjarnegara; Purbalingga; Banyumas; Cilacap and Kebumen, will be more advanced thanks to the presence of the new Jenderal Soedirman airport,” said Awaluddin. 
 
In the first stage, the runway will be constructed to specifically accomodate ATR 72-600 aircraft. Ub the later stages, the runway will be upgraded to accomodate Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 aircraft.
 
Besides that, the construction of the passenger terminals will be gradual. In the first stage, the terminals will only be able to serve 98,812 passengers per year.
 
Later, in the second stage, their capacity will be expanded to 440,440 passengers per year. Then, in the third stage, the final capacity will be 600,000 passengers per year.
 
“We are really optimistic that the construction and the development of this airport can result in Central Java economy improving further,” said Awaluddin. (Translator: Muhammad Gestinev)
