Jakarta : Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan has inspected the site of PT Etana Biotechnologies Indonesia in Pulo Gadung Industrial Site, Pulo Gadung, East Jakarta.
The company plans to produce an mRna covid-19 vaccine in Indonesia. The project is a collaboration with Chinese company Walvax.
According to Luhut, the government is ready to facilitate cooperation between PT Etana and Walvac. It will also support their third phase of clinical trials.
“We, the government, support this strategic cooperation,” said Luhut, as quoted by Medcom.id, on Wednesday.
Luhut said this medical cooperation is imperative especially in the middle of the covid-19 pandemic. He hoped that the cooperation will increase knowledge transfer so that development and production can be done domestically.
Meanwhile, Director of PT Etana Biotechnologies Indonesia Nathan Tirtana stated his commitment in producing mRNA covid-19 vaccine that could be stored at a temperature between 2-8 degrees celcius.
According to him, Walvax experts will arrive in Indonesia next week to start technology transfer.
"The cooperation and vaccine development thoroughly follow the regulations and protocols in Indonesia and WHO," said Nathan. (Translator: Natasha Celia)
