Jakarta: The Indonesian government has decided to prohibit the sale of gasoline with octane ratings below 90 starting January 1, 2023.
The policy is based on the Decree of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Number 245.K/MG.01/MEM.M/2022 on the Basic Price Formula in Calculating the Retail Sales Price of Gasoline and Solar Diesel Distributed via Public Gas Stations and Fishermen Gas Stations.
"Gasoline RON 88 which is marketed domestically has been declared invalid starting January 1, 2023," stated Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif on Thursday, October 27, 2022.
"Gasoline RON 89 as listed in the attachment which is an integral part of this Ministerial Decree is valid until December 31, 2022," he said.
According to the Decree, the decision was taken after considering the quality of gasoline with low octane levels.
The Decree also explains that Indonesia is currently focusing on achieving zero emissions or net zero emissions.
