Jakarta: The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) believes that the government should prioritize the development of electric motorcycles.

Kadin Deputy Chairman Johnny Darmawan said electric two-wheeled vehicles will be far more ready to be developed by the country's industry. He revealed Indonesia currently can produce up to seven million motorcycles per year.

According to him, in the next five years, the production of electric motorcycles could reach four million units and be able to shift the production of conventional fossil-fueled motorcycles.

"The electric motorcycle has a lot of technology. In China, there have been many developing it. Why not try it first?" said Johnny, in Jakarta on Tuesday, November 26, 2019.

Moreover, the move could help reduce the price of batteries. With many using electric motorcycles, battery sales will increase.

"If you prioritize the development of electric cars, it will take a long time," he explained.
