President Jokowi to Lead Jakarta MRT's Inauguration Ceremony

Jakarta: Region-owned company PT MRT Jakarta has revealed that President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo may lead the planned inauguration ceremony of Jakarta mass rapid transit (MRT) project in March 2018.
 
"The Jakarta provincial administration and the central government will arrange the event. President Jokowi will head the ceremony," the PT MRT Jakarta spokesperson told reporters on Thursday, February 14, 2019.
 
According to him, President Jokowi will be accompanied by Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan. In addition to that, the inauguration ceremony will be attended by national and local officials.

"The construction of elevated stations has reached 98.43 percent. The construction of underground stations has reached 98.74 percent," the PT MRT Jakarta official added.
 
The first phase of the project will connect Lebak Bulus to Bundaran Hotel Indonesia. It will consist of 7 elevated stations and 6 underground stations. 
 
For the Lebak Bulus-Bundaran Hotel Indnesia route, the region-owned company has ordered at least 16 trainsets. According to reports, a trainset can accommodate as many as 1,800 passengers.
 
Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan earlier hinted that the ticket price would be announced this month. He also added that the mass rapid transit could be integrated with other modes of transportation.
 
The greater Jakarta area comprises Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi. The area has a population of more than 28 million people.
 
It is the most populous urban area in Indonesia. It is also the center of government and economy of the country.
 
The central government has ordered regional leaders in Jakarta, West Java and Banten provinces to improve infrastructure systems in their respective regions. It has allocated funds to help accelerate their programs.
