Jakarta: The latest Consumer Survey conducted by Bank Indonesia (BI) showed how consumer confidence in economic conditions grew in February 2021, as confirmed by a moderate bump in the Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) to 85.8 from a level of 84.9 in January 2021.
Consumers with a monthly spend of Rp1-3 million were more upbeat on economic conditions, and consumer confidence increased in seven of the surveyed cities, most significantly in Surabaya, followed by Manado and Makassar.
"Consumers were more confident in February 2020 due to their perception of current economic conditions based on job availability, incomes and conditions for buying durable goods," said BI Communication Department Head Erwin Haryono in a press release on Monday.
Meanwhile, consumer expectations of economic conditions moving forward remained positive and relatively stable compared with conditions one month earlier, bolstered by expectations of incomes in the next six months.
According to the central bank, the vaccination rollout and national policy synergy are expected to drive domestic economic recovery momentum moving forward.
Moving forward, domestic economic improvements will endure in line with the global economic recovery and expedited national vaccination program by the Government.
