Jakarta: The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded an annual inflation rate of 2.72 percent in 2019. It was lower than the government's inflation target of three percent.
"Calendar year inflation and year-on-year inflation both stood at 2.72 percent," BPS head Suhariyanto told a press conference here on Thursday, January 2, 2019.
According to the BPS official, the consumer price index (CPI) increased from 135.39 to 139.07 in 2019. All seven expenditure groups experienced inflation last year
Based on the data from the agency, the foodstuffs group recorded an annual inflation rate of 4.28 percent, the foods, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group recorded an annual inflation rate of 3.97 percent, the housing, electricity, water, gas and fuel recorded an inflation rate of 1.75 percent, while the clothing group recorded an annual inflation rate of 4.93 percent.
Morover, the health services group recorded an annual inflation rate of 3.46 percent, the education services group recorded an annual inflation rate of 3.25 percent, while the transportation, communication and financial services group recorded an annual inflation rate of 0.17 percent.
"It was the lowest annual inflation rate since 2009. Our annual inflation rate never reached below three percent in the past ten years," Suhariyanto explained.
