Govt to Build New Terminal at Sam Ratulangi Airport

Manado: President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo has said that Sam Ratulangi's Airport instructed his economic team to immediately build a new terminal in Manado's Sam Ratulangi Airport.
 
"The construction process will begin this September. It is expected to be operational in August 2020," President Jokowi said here on Thursday.
 
President Jokowi is confident that the new terminal can support North Sulawesi's tourism sector. He mentioned that the number of foreign tourist arrivals in the province has been increasing over the past few years.

According to the former Jakarta governor, the airport currently covers 26 thousand square meters of land. After the expansion, the complex will cover 56 thousand square meters of land.
 
During the visit, the media-savvy leader was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution, Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly and North Sulawesi Governor Olly Dondokambey.
 
The number of foreign tourist arrivals in Indonesia stood at 1.3 million in April 2019. It increased by 0.11 percent compared to April 2018.
 
Cumulatively, the number of foreign tourist arrivals in Indonesia stood at 5.12 million in January-April 2019. According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), it rose by 3.22 percent compared to the same period in 2018.
