Consumer Confidence Restrained in July Due to Mobility Restrictions: BI

Wahyu Dwi Anggoro • 09 August 2021 15:24
Jakarta: Consumer Survey by Bank Indonesia (BI) in July 2021 indicates consumer confidence in the economic condition restrained, in line with the mobility restriction policy to mitigate the increasing transmission of the Delta variant of Covid-19.

It is reflected from Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) in July 2021 of 80.2, lower than 107.4 in June 2021, and going back to pessimistic level after stayed in optimistic area (>100) in the previous three months.

Weaker consumer confidence in July 2021 was driven by consumer’s expectation towards the economic conditions in the next 6 months that will still be limited in terms of business activities and jobs availability.

"However, consumer expectations of future earnings are maintained in the optimistic area," said BI Communication Department Head Erwin Haryono in a press release on Monday.

At the same time, consumers perceive that current economic conditions are not as expected, allegedly in line with the decline in economic activity and more limited incomes due to the implementation of Level 4 Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) in various regions in Indonesia.
