Jakarta: The latest Consumer Survey performed by Bank Indonesia in June 2021 confirmed that consumer optimism has continued to gain strength, as reflected by an increase in the Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) to 107.4 from 104.4 in May 2021.
"This condition needs to be maintained and observed in line with the implementation of the Emergency Public Activity Restrictions (PPKM Darurat) due to surging COVID-19 infection in Indonesia," said Bank Indonesia (BI) Communication Department Head Erwin Haryono in a press release on Thursday.
Consumers were more upbeat in June 2021 given improving consumer perception of current economic conditions, despite remaining in pessimistic territory (<100).
Consumer optimism was observed to improve across all spending and education as well as most age brackets.
Regionally, consumers were more upbeat in eight of the cities surveyed, led by Banten, Denpasar and Mataram.
On a quarterly basis, consumer confidence exceeded the 100-point threshold indicating optimism at 104.4 in the second quarter of 2021, up from a pessimistic 88.0 in the first quarter of 2021 and 82.1 in the second quarter of 2020.
