Jakarta: The members of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) are moving towards the Parliamentary Complex, Senayan, Jakarta. They are protesting against the Draft of the Employment Creation Bill.
According to Medcom.id observations, hundreds of workers have gathered at Gelora Bung Karno’s (GBK) gate 10, Senayan. They arrived at GBK at 09.30 Western Indonesia Time (WIB) by bus.
"Everyone gathers first, then we will move together to the DPR (House of Representative)," instructed one of the orators, Roji, from the command car in GBK on Monday, January 20, 2019.
Demonstrators fear that the omnibus law will harm labor rights if passed. They also want to demonstrate until midnight.
"We don't want our welfare to be mortgaged," Roji said.
The masses were directed by three command cars. National Police (Polri) and Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) personnel were deployed to secure the labor demonstration.
"We plunged 6,013 personnel to carry out security," said Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief Commissioner (Kombes) Yusri Yunus.
Yusri said that the diversion of traffic currents around the Parliamentary Complex had been prepared. The police will see the conditions of the demonstration before manipulating traffic.
A spokesman for the Joint Workers' Labor Movement (Gebrak) Ilhamsyah said the trade unions had never been involved in the discussion of the Employment Creation Bill. He denied the statement made by the Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto.
Ilham said that the union had agreed to the omnibus law as limited to Airlangga's claim. He claimed to have confirmed with several trade unions.
"KSPSI (Confederation of All Indonesian Trade Unions) made a statement stating that it was not true that the union had accepted the omnibus law," he said.
