Jakarta: Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has said that she is more confident in facing the challenges posed by the covid-19 pandemic this year.
According to her, Indonesia was able to withstand the impact of the covid-19 pandemic in 2020.
"In 2021, we will continue to face Covid-19, we are more optimistic now," said the finance mnister virtually during the Media Group News (MGN) Summit: Indonesia 2021 on Wednesday.
According to the World Bank managing director, the Indonesian government will use various policy instruments to deal with the challenges caused by Covid-19, including the state budget. Last year, the state budget deficit reached 6.1 percent of GDP.
"On the other hand, spending increased by 12.2 percent. Even the central government expenditure increased by over 22 percent. These expenditures are used by the government to handle Covid-19, and protect the public, business world and small and medium enterprises (SMEs)," she said.
These various efforts have been able to support the economy amid covid-19 pandemic. After contracting by 5.32 percent in the second quarter of 2020, Indonesian economy continues to improve.
"However, we must remain vigilant because covid-19 is still spreading," she concluded.
