Jakarta: President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has said that the highly-anticipated presidential regulation on electric vehicles is still being formulated by related ministries and agencies.
"I will sign the document shortly after I receive it," President Jokowi said here on Thursday.
"Every country will develop this industry. Electric vehicles don't emit polution. The cars also don't need fossil fuel," President Jokowi explained.
According to Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Ignasius Jonan, in a bid to boost development of electric vehicle (EV), the Government is committed to issuing relevant regulations and providing infrastructure.
“We are waiting for the Presidential Regulation that will set the direction of electric vehicle in the country, luxury tax (PPnBM), import duty, local content, and assembling models,” the Cabinet Secretariat's website quoted the minister as saying.
Jonan went on to say that while waiting for the regulation, his ministry is preparing infrastructure that supports the use of electric vehicles such as public electric charging stations.
He also said he had asked stated-owned electric company PLN to provide electric charging stations in public places such as malls, markets, office buildings or parking areas.
