Jakarta: President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has said that people in rural areas are also significantly affected by the impact of the ongoing covid-19 pandemic.
According to the former Jakarta governor, the current crisis is a momentum to carry out reforms and big plans that can support the rural economy.
"This pandemic must become a momentum to reinstall, improve, and also carry out reforms," said President Jokowi during a video conference here on Thursday.
Due to the impact of the pandemic, many people decide to move from urban areas to rural areas. As a result, the government should also focus on maintaining economic activities in rural areas. To that end, the government has introduced a number of economic assistance, including Cash Social Assistance (Bansos) Program and Cash Labor-Intensive Program.
"These programs musr be effectively implemented," he stated.
Meanwhile, to implement his directives in dealing with covid-19 in nine priority provinces, the president has recently formed the Covid-19 Task Force or TFC-19.
It is tasked to reduce the number of cases, reduce mortality and increase recovery rates, improve community discipline, synchronize central and regional data, encourage an increase in the number of ICUs and isolation rooms, increase medical personnel and distribute PPEs and medicines.
The nine provinces are Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, North Sumatra, South Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, Papua and Bali.
