Infrastructure Devlopment Not Only in Java: Transportation Minister

Jakarta: The government has assured that development of infrastructures, especially toll roads, in the country would not only be focused in Java Island but also in the eastern Indonesia region.
 
"Development of infrastructures would not only be in Java, but also in some other regions, for equal distribution (of development)," Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said on the sideline of a national dialogue here on Sunday.
 
Development of infrastructures is aimed at improving connectivity and equality to ease distribution of goods and commodity, thus it could be cheaper and affordable for the public.

Budi said during 2015 to 2018 the government has built 1.070 kilometers of toll road in West Papua and 3,106 kilometers toll road in Papua.
 
"Development of toll roads in Papua and West Papua would be continued to open connectivity," he said.
 
By the end of 2018 the government has completed construction of 870 kilometers of Trans Java toll road of Merak-Surabaya section and it is targeted to complete construction of 1,150 kilometers of Merak-Banyuwangi toll road in 2019.
 
The minister said infrastructure development has become one of the government's priority.
 
During the dialogue, the minister conveyed progress in development of land, sea and air infrastructure as well as macro economy.
 
According to a report from BPS, Indonesian gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 5.17 percent in 2018. It was Indonesia's highest annual growth in five years.
 
Indonesian GDP grew by 5.18 percent in the fourth quarter of 2018 GD. The GDP growth was slightly stronger than earlier expectations.
 
In the meantime, Indonesia's poverty rate stood at 9.66 percent in September 2018. The poverty rate decreased by 0.46 percentage point compared to September 2017.
 
The number of poor in Indonesia stood at 25.67 million people in September 2018. It decreased by 0.91 million people compared to September 2017. (Antara)
