Jokowi Calls for Integrated Public Transportation Services in Greater Jakarta

Jakarta: President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has instructed local governments in Greater Jakarta to integrate public transportation services in the region.
 
The Greater Jakarta region comprises Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi. It has a population of more than 28 million people.
 
The region is the most populous urban area in Indonesia. It is also the center of government and economy of the country.
 
"Traffic congestion in Jakarta, Bekasi and Tangerang has caused massive economic losses. This issue has been ignored for decades," President Jokowi told a limited cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

"Ministries, agencies, regions should remove sectoral ego. We should prioritize our national interest," President Jokowi noted.
 
According to reports, President Jokowi will inaugurate the first phase of Jakarta mass rapid transit (MRT) project this month. During the inauguration ceremony, President Jokowi will be accompanied by a number of ministers and local officials.
 
The first phase of Jakarta MRT will connect Bundaran Hotel Indonesia in Central Jakarta and Lebak Bulus in South Jakarta. The route will have 7 elevated stations and 6 underground stations.
 
"I believe that these measures could resolve the issue. I hope LRT and MRT could serve the public well," President Jokowi remarked.
 
According to BPS, Indonesian economy grew by 5.17 percent in 2018. It was Indonesia's highest annual growth in five years.
 
In terms of production, the highest growth was achieved by Other Service Business Fields at 8.99 percent. From expenditure side, the highest growth was achieved by the Non-Profit Institution Consumption Component Serving Households (PK-LNPRT) at 9.08 percent.
 
In the meantime, Indonesian economy grew by 5.18 percent in the fourth quarter of 2018. The growth was slightly stronger than earlier expectations.
 
In terms of production, growth was driven by all business fields, where the highest growth was achieved by Other Service Business Fields at 9.08 percent.
 
In terms of expenditure, growth was driven by all components, where the highest growth was achieved by the PK-LNPRT component of 10.79 percent.
