Jakarta: President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is optimistic that the newly inuagurated Pekanbaru-Dumai toll road can help improve investment climate in Riau Province.
"I understand that some investors are interested to develop areas near the toll road. Some investors want to build housing complexes. It of course will create jobs. Others want to develop tourist destinations. It will also create jobs," President Jokowi said at the Bogor Presidential Palace, Bogor City, West Java Province on Friday afternoon.
President Jokowi inaugurated the 131-kilometer tolld road today. He led the inauguration ceremony virtually from the Bogor Palace.
According to Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, the Pekanbaru-Dumai toll road is part of the Tran Sumatra Toll Road project. In the next three years, the central government expects to connect toll toads in Riau and Lampung provinces.
"After that, we will expand the network until Aceh Province," he explained.
Connecting the two largest cities in Riau Province, the Pekanbaru-Dumai toll road consists of six sections, namely Pekanbaru-Minas Section, Minas-South Kandis Section, South Kandis-North Kandis Section, North Kandis-Duri Section, South Duri-North Duri Section and North Duri-Dumai Section.
