Jakarta: Indonesia's trade surplus stood at USD1.57 billion in March 2021, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) has announced.
Indonesia has, therefore, maintained a trade surplus since May 2020.
"Indonesia's export-import performance in March 2021 was very impressive," said BPS chairman Suhariyanto during a virtual press conference here on Thursday morning.
According to the government agency, the overall trade surplus recorded in March 2021 was influenced by a maintained non-oil and gas trade surplus.
Such developments were influenced by increasing non-oil and gas exports at USD17.45 billion compared with USD14.40 billion the month earlier.
On the other hand, non-oil and gas imports increased primarily on capital goods in line with stronger domestic economic activity.
"Indonesian imports have been growing since February 2021 and we recorded the highest growth this month," Suhariyanto stated.
