Jakarta: Indonesia has set a nationwide target of battery-based electric motorcycles to reach two million in 2025, according to Maritime Affairs and Investment Coordinating Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.
The Indonesian government is making unwavering efforts to encourage the use of electric motorcycles in the country, the Coordinating Minister remarked during the virtual launch of Grab's Green Step here on Thursday.
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) signed Presidential Regulation Number 55 of 2019 on the accelerated development of battery-based electric motor vehicles for road transportation.
The Coordinating Minister is optimistic that transportation service providers, such as Grab Indonesia, would support the government's vision by transitioning to modes of electric transportation.
"Grab is the operator, with the largest number of battery-based electric motor vehicles in Indonesia, having a fleet of over 7,500 two-wheeled vehicles," he stated.
He spoke of Indonesia soon forgoing fossil energy and switching to renewable energy as part of the climate change mitigation efforts.
To this end, he urged all sides to work closely to help Indonesia achieve net zero emission launched by the government.
"The president is keen that Indonesia really be part of the efforts to make the world friendlier and greener," he pointed out.
