Indonesia's Consumer Confidence Back to Optimism Level: BI

Wahyu Dwi Anggoro • 10 May 2021 12:59
Jakarta: The latest Consumer Survey conducted by Bank Indonesia (BI) in April 2021 indicated consumer confidence optimism in economic conditions.

Compared with 93.4 in March 2021, the Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) moved above the 100-point threshold into optimistic territory at 101.5l last month.

"CCI in April 2021 was also the first optimism figure since it entered the pessimistic territory in April 2020," said BI Communication Department Head Erwin Haryono in a press release on Monday.

Consumer optimism has improved across all spending, education and age brackets, and in all 18 of the surveyed cities, led by Padang, Bandung and Pangkal Pinang.

Consumers were more upbeat in April 2021 based on their expectations of economic conditions moving forward, particularly in terms of increasing job availability, business activity and income in the next six months.

In addition, consumer perception of current economic conditions has also improved in response to job availability, income and conditions for purchasing durable goods.
