Jakarta: Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi met with her Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi during her visit to Jordan on Tuesday.
According to Indonesia's top diplomat, the visit shows Indonesia’s commitment to continue strengthening bilateral relations with Jordan. It is her first visit abroad for 2021. She discussed cooperation between the countries and the issue of Palestine during the meeting.
"My visit is a showcase of Indonesia’s commitment to continue strengthening bilateral relations with Jordan. And we have all the bilateral mechanisms in place. This is time to make use of all these mechanisms for concrete cooperation," she stated.
During the meeting, the Indonesian delegation proposed further cooperation related to phosphate among other Joint Venture. Phosphate is one of priority cooperation for Indonesia with Jordan. One of the success stories is the Joint Venture between Jordan Phosphate Mines Company (JPMC) and PT Petrokimia Gresik.
"Indonesia has proposed to have a Preferential Trade Agreement with Jordan and looking forward to having positive response from Jordan on this proposal. And we also agreed to finalize all the pending agreements including the MoU on the counter-terrorism. So I do hope that all the pending agreements could be finalized this year," Retno stated.
Moreover, the Indonesian government also welcomed the decision of the emergency meeting of the Arab League Council held in Cairo which shows strong support of the Arab League to the cause of the Palestinians.
"I will also meet with the Foreign Minister of Palestine. The support of Indonesia to the Palestine cause is unwavering. Indonesia hopes that this year will be a better year for efforts to gain significant steps forward in reaching a lasting and just solution to the issue of Palestine," she concluded.
