Jakarta: President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo will appreciate it if members of the House of Representatives (DPR) quickly complete the discussion on the Employment Creation Bill and the Taxation Bill. Academic reviews of the bills will be submitted next week.
"I will raise two thumbs up if the DPR can finish this in 100 days," Jokowi said at the Annual Meeting of the Financial Services Industry at the Ritz-Carlton, Pacific Place, Jakarta on Thursday, January 16, 2020.
According to Jokowi, discussing the two omnibus bills is not easy. Because, there are 79 laws and 1,244 articles that must be revised by the DPR.

"This is indeed complicated," he said.
However, it is the fastest way for the government to solve the fundamental problems at the central, regional, provincial, and district / city levels.
"If our laws are rigid, government regulations are rigid, regional regulations are rigid. Changes that exist cannot be responded quickly. We are hampered by regulations," Jokowi explained.
"If this really comes out, there will be a huge change in the movement of our economy and the movement of our policies," he said.
The Employment Creation Bill will amend 79 laws and 1,244 articles. Substance includes 11 clusters namely simplification of licensing, investment requirements, employment, facilities, empowerment, and protection of Micro and Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), ease of doing business, research and innovation support, government administration, imposition of sanctions, land acquisition, investment and government projects, and economic zones.
However, the academic draft of the Employment Creation Bill is constrained by a number of points concerning minimum wages, outsourcing, foreign workers, severance pay, working hours, and sanctions.
Meanwhile, the academic draft of the Taxation Bill covers investment funding, the territorial system, the subject of personal taxation, tax compliance, tax climate justice, and facilities.
