Jakarta: Improvement in consumer confidence in economic conditions was restrained in January 2021, according to the latest Consumer Survey conducted by Bank Indonesia (BI).
This is reflected in the Consumer Confidence Index (IKK) of 84.9 in January 2021, lower than 96.5 in December 2020.
"It was mainly due to lower expectations of economic conditions in the next 6 months," said BI Communication Department Head Erwin Haryono in a press release on Monday.
Last month, expansion of business activities, availability of employment opportunities and future income were not as strong as in the previous month.
Despite this, consumer expectations for future economic conditions remain at an optimistic level (index> 100).
According to the survey, the restrained improvement in consumer confidence in January 2021 occurred in all categories of expenditure levels and the majority of age groups.
Consumer confidence decreased in the 14 surveyed cities, expecially Surabaya, Bandung and Mataram.
