Jakarta: The Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) stated that the new president director for PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk will be decided at the General Shareholders Meeting (RUPS) in January 2020.
According to Special Staff of the Minister of BUMN Arya Sinulingga, the Ministry of BUMN previously asked permission to the Financial Services Authority (OJK) to hold the RUPS. the OJK then insructed the Ministry of BUMN to hold the RUPS at least 45 days after the submission of the request.
"45 days after the submission to the OJK the RUPS will then be held. It means that January is the limit. It can’t be moved earlier (December). The OJK itself requested it," Arya said at Hotel Novotel, Cikini, Central Jakarta on Tuesday, December 10, 2019.
Arya did not want to reveal the candidates. Some of the rumored candidates are former Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Ignasius Jonan and former Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Susi Pudjiastuti.
After the smuggling of Harley-Davidson motorcycle and Brompton bicycle on Garuda Indonesia aircraft, SOE Minister Erick Thohir removed Ari Askhara from the position of President Director of Garuda Indonesia. Following the event, the Board of Commissioners and the Ministry of BUMN agreed to suspend four other directors in Garuda Indonesia including Operations Director Bambang Adisurya Angkasa, Human Capital Director Heri Akhyar, Director of Cargo and Business Development Mohammad Iqbal, and Director of Engineering and Services Iwan Joeniarto.
After the removal of most of the company’s board, there are only two old members in management, namely Finance and Risk Management Director Fuad Rizal, who is now serving as the executive director of Garuda Indonesia, and the Director of Commerce Pikri Ilham Kurniansyah.
In regard to the fate of the two remaining directors, Arya claimed that he was not yet able to ascertain whether it would be revamped during the RUPS. Hoever, the remaining two directors did not participate in the flight of the Garuda GA9721 type Airbus A330-900 Neo imported from the Airbus factory in France to the Garuda Maintenance Facility (GMF) Soekarno-Hatta Cengkareng.
