Jakarta: Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) head Rosan Roeslani hopes President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo can immediately issue a presidential regulation on electric vehicles.
"The future will be dominated by electric vehicles. We must act quickly," the businessman said here on Monday.
"In order to develop electric vehicles or hybrid vehicles, we must have a legal basis. as the resultt, the industry can help reduce fuel consumption," he added.
Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Ignasius Jonan earlier said that the Government is committed to issuing relevant regulations. He expressed optimism that the use of electric vehicles will show a positive trend in the country
The Energy and Mineral Resources Minitry is currently preparing infrastructure that supports the use of electric vehicles. It asked asked stated-owned electric company PLN to provide electric charging stations in public places such as malls, markets, office buildings or parking areas.
"We are waiting for the Presidential Regulation that will set the direction of electric vehicle in the country, luxury tax (PPnBM), import duty, local content, and assembling models," the Cabinet Secretariat's website quoted the former transportation minister as saying.
