Jakarta: The latest Supply and Demand Financing Survey, conducted by Bank Indonesia (BI), indicated new loan disbursements by the banking sector in August 2021 accelerated from the previous period.
Housing loans and other consumer loans triggered the increase of new loan disbursements recorded in August 2021, while respondents predicted slower growth of working capital loans and investment loans.
The increase of new loan disbursements is primarily driven by commercial banks and regional development banks.
Conversely, loans extended by Islamic banks experienced moderation.
"Overall, respondents anticipated growth of new loan disbursements in the third quarter of 2021, though at a slower pace than in the previous quarter," said BI Communication Department Head Erwin Haryono in a press release on Friday.
On the demand side, the survey revealed moderating demand for corporate financing in August 2021, with the weighted net balance1 (WNB) decreasing to 0.9% from 1.8% in July 2021.
Demand for financing retreated in several sectors, including Mining, Manufacturing and Health Services, compared with conditions one month earlier in line with shrinking operational activities.
In contrast, respondents reported stronger demand in a number of sectors, such as Real Estate, Corporate Services as well as Information and Communication, primarily to support operational and investment activities as well as repay maturing obligations.
Household demand for financing was observed to increase in August 2021, with commercial banks remaining the preferred source, dominated by Multipurpose Loans and Automotive Loans.
